Visions of space and time.

December 1 - 31, 2021 Virtual Exhibition
Raphaele Cohen-Bacry | Karen Feuer Schwager | Julia Higgins | Kathy Holmes | Barry Markowitz | Verinda Mudan
For this series of virtual exhibitions, we reached out to members of the community, all of which have been engaged in art making for quite some time. This second collection of six artists all work within their genre to express thoughts on a variety of subject matters through the mediums of paint, college, sculpture and photography. Mostly dealing in abstraction and hovering into non-representational art, each artists' expression is true to their vision for their own space and time. Read more on the Coastline Art Gallery Blog.
The exhibition was available for viewing Dec. 1st - 31st, 2021.

Raphaele Cohen-Bacry
Artist Bio
I am a painter and a mixed media artist. I was born and raised in Paris, France, where I studied painting and print making while completing my Doctorate in pharmacology and a degree in performing arts. I worked in my Parisian studio for several years, spending a few months in NYC now and then to work with other artists. I moved to the United States in 2003.
Intensely interested in collage for the past 4 years, I look at this practice as a symbol of the growth of the human mind and a way of re-tracing the path of psyche development. That collage appeals to different areas of the brain is particularly intriguing. Having studied the mind-body connection with its powerful influence on health, I have been even more captivated by this art form.

My imagery is derived from my dreams, meditations and emotions. It is a reflection of experiences - past and present - that influence each one of us as a collective. Using different materials, the surfaces of my art engage the viewer in a very tactile manner... yet, light is able to penetrate creating translucent imagery.

Artist Statement
My journey in art expression, for most of my career, has been through teaching art and encouraging others. One of my student teachers Hiep Nguyen, once introduced a written piece by Thích Nhất Hạnh, to the students on the concept "inter-be." Growing up in a family of five children, we were always there to help each other. In the classroom, learning to work together was of utmost importance. Here on earth, everything affects everything or everyone else in some way. In making my art, I hope to express the essence of that interdependence. We’re all in this together.
