The Coastline College Library follows the college’s privacy policy. We strive to maintain the security of students’ identifying information. We will not sell or otherwise re-purpose for any non-academic purposes the information you provide to us. We carefully review all of the privacy policies of the third-party vendors who provide the library’s databases and require companies to comply with the same practices which we would follow when building a service locally. We may use the information we collect during your interactions with the library through email, the website, the YouTube videos, third-party vendors of the library’s databases, and the library’s workshops in Canvas to do assessment research about the effects of the library services, resources and workshops on students’ success and retention. We retain ID images that you provide through Proctorio for one semester. The college retains the emails you send to the library indefinitely because they are subject to subpoena and public records requests. Please email the library at library@coastline.edu if you need to correct any erroneous or misleading information about you in the library workshop records or other library records. We will work with you to determine the most appropriate course of action. Your privacy is important to the library. (Updated 8/10/2021)
Frequently Asked Questions

No. The Coastline Library resources are 100% online so we don't have a physical Library. If you are looking for a place to study, you can do that in one of the Student Success Centers . Need some Research or Library help?

How do I use the online library?
Does the Library have my textbook?
Not if you are looking for a physical textbook. The online library does have links to some textbooks if a class has a free DIGITAL textbook. To find classes with free textbooks see the video: How to find classes with free textbooks. To search the Library Catalog to see if there is a link to your textbook go to the Library Catalog and type in your class name (example = ENGL C100).
I need research help!
No problem. The Library can help you with research for your Coastline classes. You can Ask a Librarian for help or help yourself through the CoastlineLIBRARY YouTube channel, the Library Workshops in Canvas, or study guides on our research help page. A Librarian is a "trained research professional" and can help you with quick questions or in-depth research needs. How can we help you?
Can someone help me with citing my sources so that I don’t plagiarize?
We recommend doing Coastline’s MLA or APA Advanced workshop to learn about the steps for correctly citing sources in your essays. You can also get individualized help with citations through the Student Success Center, which offers online tutoring and help checking your work.
How can I get copies of magazine articles for a report I'm writing?
Coastline has subscriptions to a lot of Academic Databases that have just what you need. Access the Academic Databases by visiting our ebooks & Databases webpage.
