Artist Biography and Concept
Doris Schamp works in various disciplines such as drawing, painting and cartooning and sculpting. In the recent series she illustrates friends as nude figures in a pose they choose with a strong, graphic stroke. Schamp creates contrasts not only by using black and white but also by ignoring body details of the individual. She sees the model as an inspiration for new forms. The persona disappears behind an anonymous figure.
Undefined faces and unfinished body parts provide insights into an intimate moment in which individuals had the freedom to present themselves in their unique ways.
Doris Schamp (*1983, Oberpullendorf, Austria) lives and works in Vienna and in Bramberg in the Alps. She studied Art and Communication and Art Teaching at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. Her works have been shown at the Building Bridges Art Exchange in Los Angeles, the Austrian Cultural Forum in New York, the Mahalla Art Festival in Malta, the Landesgalerie Burgenland and the Karikaturmuseum Krems in Austria and in Frankfurt, Germany.
Schamp won the international Cartoon Prize of Aachen in 2013.
