A Coastline Service for the Community

VITA = Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

Welcome to Coastline's VITA Program! We provide FREE tax filing assistance to families earning less than $60,000 a year. Our trained, IRS-certified volunteers will prepare and double-check your tax return to make sure it is correct before filing. For the 2023 Tax Season, all meetings will be in-person at a Coastline campus.

• Do I qualify for this program?

  Is your household income generally $60,000 or less?

  If you answered 'yes' then you qualify for VITA.

• Do I need an appointment?

  No, taxpayers will be helped on a first come first serve basis. Taxpayers should arrive with copies of their tax documents, etc. and plan to spend 1-2 hours with our volunteers. Our site can become very busy, and some taxpayers may be asked (or can volunteer) to be interviewed and then return one week later to pick up their completed returns.

• Will VITA be virtual?

  All Coastline VITA tax preparation events for tax season 2023 will be hosted in person at Coastline Campus locations. There will be no virtual tax preparation service this year.

  For returning VITA taxpayers and military members, Coastline VITA is hosting several appreciation days where you can schedule an appointment for priority service.

• What documents do I need?
  • Proof of identification (government-issued photo ID)
  • Social Security cards for you, your spouse, and dependents
  • An Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) assignment letter may be substituted for you, your spouse, and your dependents if you do not have a Social Security number
  • Birth dates for you, your spouse, and dependents on the tax return
  • Wage and earning statements (Forms W-2, W-2G, 1099-R,1099-Misc) from all employers
  • Interest and dividend statements from banks (Forms 1099-INT/1099-DIV)
  • Health Insurance Exemption Certificate, if received
  • A copy of last year's federal and state returns, if available
  • Bank account routing and account numbers for direct deposit, such as a blank check
  • To file taxes electronically on a Married Filing Joint tax return, both spouses must be present to sign the required forms
  • Total paid for daycare provider and the daycare provider's tax identifying number such as their Social Security Number or business Employer Identification Number
  • Forms 1095-A, B and C, Health Coverage Statements
  • If applicable, the California Form FTB 3895, Health Insurance Marketplace Statement
