Hello, my name is Sean Jacobs and I have assumed the current role of the student assistant/peer mentor of the Rising Tide Scholar Program. I am honored to be able to serve our community of formerly incarcerated and system-impacted students. I am currently enrolled in Coastline in pursuit of my AA for transfer in psychology.
I am no stranger to the challenges of leading a life wrought with homelessness, drug abuse, and incarceration. Over 4 years ago I found myself in front of an all too familiar judge who proceeds to tell me, "Mr. Jacobs, it seems you are serving a life sentence on the installment plan." His comment about how much time I spent incarcerated led me to make decisions that would alter my life forever, and for the better.
I am a single father of two teenagers and currently take care of my mother who has Alzheimer's disease. The fact that I am now present in my family's life is a driving force in my motivation to help others have the same opportunity to be there for the ones they love. I am also employed full-time as a CADC Drug and Alcohol Counselor for an in-patient treatment center. Fun Fact: I have a dog trained as a service dog and he has gone to work with me every day for over 2 years!
