Active-duty personnel are not charged for the reservation.
There is a $35 facility fee charged to all other individuals. The facility fee will be collected at the Testing Center at the time you take your exam, and the fee must be paid by credit card. Cash cannot be accepted.

NTC Study Prep
These exams are intended to be as rigorous and challenging as a regular full-semester college course. Coastline highly recommends that students, even those who may feel comfortable with the testing materials, brush up their skills or take a practice exam prior to attempting one of these exams. Many free and fee sites are available on the internet which offer study guides and practice exams.

Active Duty Military, National Guard, Reserves
Register
Spouses and Civilian Service Employees of Air Force Reserve, Air National Guard, Army National Guard, Army Reserves, and Coast Guard
- Visit CLEP - College Board and create an account
- Go to "Manage Your Profile." (You may have to logout and back in to access your profile)
- Edit your Personal Information. Enter the required data and be sure to check the box next to "I am eligible for DANTES Funding." (Checking this box is VERY important)
- Choose "CLEP Exams" at the top of the page
- Locate the exam you would like to take
- Check the box next to the exam and then choose "Add to Cart"
- Click your "Shopping Cart" at the top right corner
- Ensure the correct test has been selected
- The amount chosen should show $0. Do NOT enter your credit card information unless this is your second attempt at an exam of the same title.
- Print CLEP Registration Ticket (it will be required on exam day)
On test day, you MUST bring two valid forms of identification. Valid forms of identification include current Military ID, Driver's License, Passport, National ID, Tribal ID Card, Naturalization Card, and Certificate of Citizenship.
Veterans and Dependents
- Visit CLEP - College Board and create an account
- After logging into your account, choose "CLEP Exams" at the top of the page
- Locate the exam you would like to take
- Check the box next to the exam and then choose "Add to Cart"
- Click your Shopping Cart at the top right corner
- Ensure the correct test has been selected and then make payment
- Print CLEP Registration Ticket (it will be required on exam day)

On test day, please bring your credit card as there is a $25 administrative fee for non-DANTES funded candidates (payable by credit card only).

Exam Fees
- How much does the exam cost?
- Exams are free for active duty Service members. For dependents, Veterans and DoD civilians, there is a fee of $93 for a CLEP and $100 for a DSST exam.
- *Effective July 1, 2024, the cost of the exam will be $95.00 for a CLEP exam.
- I am using the GI Bill®, how do I get reimbursed?

- I am a DoD civilian and I have been told that I can take CLEP/DSST exams for free. Is this true?
- In certain cases, Department of Defense Acquisition Personnel are eligible for computer-based CLEP and DSST exams. They include the following:
- CLEP: Principles of Macroeconomics, Principles of Microeconomics and Principles of Marketing exams.
- DSST: Principles of Statistics, Principle of Finance, Principles of Financial Accounting, Personnel/Human Resource Management, Organizational Behavior and Business Law II.
Reservations
- Is there a reservation fee?
- There is no reservation fee. However, Coastline will charge a $25 facility fee to non-active duty Service members. This fee will be collected at the testing center, paid by credit card, at the time you take your exam; cash will not be accepted.
- How do I cancel my reservation and is there a cancellation fee?
- We ask, as a courtesy, that you contact the National Test Center Coordinator by email or phone so they can remove your reservation time and make it available for another student. There is no fee to cancel a reservation.
- How do I make a reservation for non CLEP/DSST exams?
- You can make a reservation for GMAT and certification exams (CompTIA, CIW, CWMP, EMT, etc.) at www.pearsonvue.com/military.
Day of the Exam
- What forms of ID should I bring?
- Active duty Service members should bring their military ID and one other form of government-issued ID. All other testers should bring one government-issued ID and one secondary form of ID with your name and signature.
- How early should I arrive for the exam?
- We ask that you arrive at least 5 minutes before your scheduled appointment.
- Can I use a calculator for the exam?
- Calculators are NOT allowed for CLEP exams. For DSST exams, you may use a non-programmable, solar/battery powered calculator for the following exams:
- 424 Fundamentals of College Algebra
- 450 Principles of Statistics
- 524 Principles of Finance
- 525 Introduction to Financial Accounting
- 536 Introductions to Computing
- 550 Personal Finance
- 812 Business Mathematics
- Can I bring my cell phone?
- We ask that all cell phones be turned off or silenced while in the testing centers. We will ask you to store all personal belongings, including your cell phone in a designated area.
- Can I bring food or drink to the exam?
- Most test centers allow only bottled water.
Failed Exam & Exam Re-Takes
- What happens if I fail a CLEP/DSST exam?
- There are no penalties for failing an exam or ramification on your military (JST) or college transcript. It is important to study as these exams are intended to accelerate your degree plan.
- Air Force Candidates - these exams apply toward your CCAF degree. It is wise to show success on your Web Progress CCAF Reports.
- I need to re-take a CLEP or DSST exam, how long do I have to wait?
- You must wait 90 days to re-take a CLEP and 30 days to re-take a DSST exam. Active duty servicemembers re-taking an exam will be required to pay the $89 test fee for CLEP and the $85 test fee for DSST.

Military candidates can accelerate their degree plans with College Level Examination Program (CLEP) and DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST) testing. Successful candidates earn their degrees faster, most candidates save money on books and fees. Coastline is pleased to extend their National Test Center facilities nationwide to all active-duty military, spouses, retired military, and DoD civilians.
